Build a Cane

How I build a cane....

First I start by drawing the picture I would like to build my cane on.

Then I start layering strips of clay, working from the inside out... to match the design on the paper.

(I must have turned the cane over to check the bottom and forgot to put it back....since the carrot nose is now going the wrong way? Oh well...)

Everything gets wrapped in very thin black clay to show detail.

Just keep on working my way out...

Almost done... Now I just have to keep adding the outside color until I make the full circle.

The cane is done... Now for the reducing!

This is the tricky part. Hopefully everything moves together and evenly?

You can see the ends will be distorted, but hopefully not too bad inside?

Now I cut the ends off and see how well I did?

These are canes that will be later reduced down for beads.

These are tiny baked canes that will be sliced for nail art.
