How to?

How to use Fimo Nail Canes?
Frequently asked questions:

Q:   Once you receive your new nail art canes, how do you slice them?

A:   I slice my canes cold and I am able to get a much thinner slice.  But you must use the type of blade I sell in my store.  It is very sharp, so be careful!  The blade also doesn’t last forever.  I can usually slice about a 1000 slices and then I need to throw it away for a new blade.

Other people like to slice their canes warm.  You can do this by warming your cane about a minute in a cup of very hot water, or some people like to use a beverage warmer, or heating pad.  Make sure it isn’t too hot, or the cane will scortch and turn brown.  (if using a beverage warmer, then put the canes in a bowl or on several pieces of thick paper)

You need to try and slice them almost paper thin, so they will handle easily.

Q:  Can I use the nail slices on my natural nails?

A:  Yes, you can, however, you will get the best results with acrylic or gel nails.
Use a nail glue to put the slice on your nail.  Don’t use very much glue (it can be very messy and is like superglue)  Once it is dry, you can file the slice down so it doesn’t stick up too much.  The design goes all the way through the slice, so you don’t have to worry about messing it up.   Then apply a clear top coat over your nail.  You can remove the slices with acetone nail polish remover.

Q:  How do I embed the nail slices in acrylic?

A:  This needs to be done by a professional nail tech.

If your nail tech embeds dry flowers or crystals, they will know how to embed fimo slices.   They will apply a thin layer of wet acrylic or gel over the fingernail and then pick up the nail slice with a wet paintbrush.  lightly place it on the thin layer of acrylic.  Then the remaining acrylic will be built on top of this slice or slices.  The fimo slice will then be encased in the acrylic or gel.   Then most nail techs will use a clear UV gel topcoat.  Some will adhear the slice right to the nail with nail glue first, but I have heard you get better results (less halo effect) by avoiding the nail glue.
